A necklace for ashes is a unique type of necklace that's made specifically to hold a small amount of cremains, a lock of hair, a pinch of burial soil, or compressed pieces of memorial flowers. Many of these specialized jewelry pieces look much like other necklaces, but a small chamber allows the cremains to remain safe and protected from disturbance. This chamber, often referred to as the necklace urn, can be permanently sealed for your peace of mind.
Many people choose urn necklaces for ashes as a way to share cremains among family members and loved ones. It's a safe and special way to keep the memory of the departed always at hand and close to your heart. Keep in mind that we don't recommend that you sleep or bathe while wearing a cremation necklace, or perform strenuous activities, as it could damage the piece.
How Does an Urn Necklace Work?
The way that urn necklaces for ashes work is quite simple. Within or behind the cremation pendant is a small cremains chamber, which holds less than 1 cubic inch of cremains — about 1/2 a pinch. Using the funnel that comes with your order from Perfect Memorials, you can gently add a small
amount of cremains, soil, or another item to the chamber. A small screw is then used to seal the necklace urn; we recommend that you add a small amount of modeling glue or epoxy to make the seal permanent.
If you are not comfortable filling the urn pendant yourself, you may want to call your local funeral home or crematory. Most funeral service professionals can help you fill a necklace for ashes at no charge or for just a small fee.
