Honor your loved one with a beautiful picture frame urn that allows you to place one or more photos in frames on the urn itself. These urns are available in individual and keepsake sizes, and they can be made with traditional natural wood finishes or unique cultured materials. With a photo urn from Perfect Memorials, you'll have a special reminder of your loved one.
Picture Frame Urn Options
A photo frame urn may look like a standard picture frame that's a bit thicker, or it can be in the shape of a chest, box, or other container. At least one side will include an open slot where at photo can be placed. Some picture frame urns feature multiple spaces for photos, and a base that allows you to spin to show any of the sides.
Picture urns are often made of wood, although there are metal and cultured material options. The opening for the photo is most often rectangular, but hearts, ovals, and other shapes can also be found. Placing the photo into the urn is simple, and you can change out the image as often as you'd like.
Filling Your Cremation Urn
While it's not required, you may wish to purchase an inside the urn bag to hold the cremains of your loved on inside the urn. This will give you an added layer of protection in the unlikely event that anything happens to the urn. Most often, a picture frame urn will open at the top or bottom, allowing you to place the ashes or urn bag inside. The container may be sealed with screws or sealant tape, or the lid may simply rest on the urn.
Choosing the Right Urn
Before you buy a photo frame urn, make sure that you read our helpful guide, How to Choose the Right Cremation Urn. You'll find useful information on the different types of urns, how to select the correct size urn, and how to transfer the ashes.
Picture frame urns are available in a number of different sizes, so it's important that you choose one that's large enough to hold all of the cremains that you wish to store. As a general rule, one pound of body weight before cremation is equal to one cubic inch of cremains. A 180 pound individual would need an urn that holds at least 180 cubic inches, if you intended to store all of the cremains together.
If you only have a portion of the cremains, which is not uncommon in families where the ashes are shared among loved one, you'll need to have a general idea of the volume that you need to store. One cubic inch is about equal to 1 tablespoon. A picture frame urn that holds 30 cubic inches, therefore, would hold about 2 cups.
