Each dog has a zippered opening on the back for the easy installation of the ashes. A small plastic bag is included with each for holding a small quantity of ashes while inside the urn. A small red fabric heart is also included for holding remembrance keepsakes, such as soil from the gravesite, dried funeral flowers, or a lock of hair. The red fabric heart is not intended to hold ashes.

If you plan to bury this urn, it is vital that a burial container be used to protect the urn and its contents. Direct burial is not advised.
